Thailand enters ‘War on Sugar’ with tax on sweetened beverages

NEW YORK (REUTERS) – Thailand has slapped tariffs on sugar likely to hit US$9 million (S$12.2 million) worth of US beverage exports, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said on Friday (Oct 20), as one of the top producers of the sweetener joins a growing list of regions implementing such taxes.
