COLOMBO (AFP) – Former Maldives president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was released from jail Sunday (Sept 30), a week after his estranged half-brother suffered a shock electoral defeat, raising hopes that other high profile political prisoners could soon have their convictions overturned.
